Prefer to watch and listen? No problem! Watch our value champion Sylvana talk about being open-minded at SoSafe.
“Open-Minded” is one of the four core values at SoSafe and an integral part of our culture. It describes how we work, treat each other, and achieve our goals. Being open-minded can mean a lot to different people. One of our Safeys who embodies this value exceptionally well is Sylvana, our value champion for “Open-Minded”. We sat down with her to learn a bit more about what this value means to her.
Can you give us a short introduction of who you are?
Hi, my name is Sylvana. I’m from Product Marketing and I am the value champion for “Open-Minded”.
What does this Value mean to you?
Open mindedness means for me to be welcoming towards other opinions, no matter what their background is. I really enjoy discussions with our workforce. We have such a diverse workforce with so many different people and different backgrounds, and I think open mindedness is the key to embracing change in an organization.
How do you live this value in your work life?
I live open mindedness in my daily work life mainly through feedback.
I think feedback is the key component for organizational change. For example, when we have new joiners, I always ask them to share their vision and share their opinion on the processes and products they see because they will bring in a fresh view on everything. On the other hand, I, as a more seasoned Safey, always try to share my opinion, my view on things and basically just get everyone on one table, engage in discussions, and together try to bring the whole product and the whole vision further. So I think the most important thing is together create a supportive culture of asking questions.
Can you share an example that illustrates the positive impact of this value within SoSafe?
Feedback and discussions are super, super important, but in the recent past I learned to also appreciate the complexity of decision making. So there are so many different opinions and discussions and feedback points in the room. And what I need to learn, or what everyone needs to learn, is to trust the teams to make informed decisions. So in my point of view, open mindedness is also vital for effective decision making.
