In the fast-paced environment of cyber security, our values help us stay on track, motivate us to do our best, and connect us in our work towards one shared goal: To make the digital world a safer place. At SoSafe, we live our values every day and they can be felt in how we interact with each other, do our work, and bring our mission forward. While every SoSafe employee, known as a “Safey”, knows our core values “Open-Minded”, “Ownership”, “Ambition”, and “Focus”, we want to share more about them here today to give a better insight into what working at SoSafe and our culture are really like and why our Value Champions, who embody these principles every day and inspire us all to reach our goals, are important to keeping our values alive.
Open-minded: Embracing diversity and innovation
Being open-minded is an integral part of the SoSafe culture. From the first contact in our application process to the first days after the official start, we welcome everyone regardless of their background, treating others the way we want to be treated – with respect, empathy, and kindness.
We welcome curiosity as part of our daily life and encourage our Safeys to ask questions, to listen, and to learn from those around them from the first day. New Safeys partake in our onboarding process, where they meet our different departments and discuss topics regarding our values in workshops, while our open-door policy ensures that everyone is heard, regardless of where in SoSafe they work.
We believe that innovation thrives in an environment where ideas are freely exchanged and challenged. Therefore, our Safeys don’t have to be afraid to make mistakes as we understand that they happen and treat them as learning opportunities that allow us to grow and implement positive changes. Whatever happens, our Safeys can be sure that their team is there to support them with open arms. A strong believe in diversity and inclusion strengthens this further. With over 45 different nationalities, a multitude of internal Communities like our Queers & Allies, BIPoc, Sustainability, Family Life, Women in Tech, and more, we thrive on our diversity of thought, which shows up in our hiring practices, design and accessibility of our product, and our culture of intentional togetherness.
Ownership: Our commitment to taking initiative and accountability
At SoSafe, taking ownership is more than a big word: Being entrusted to fulfil our roles includes taking full responsibility for all the ways we impact our customers, business, and each other. We have faith in our own abilities and those of our team members to treat all issues as solvable.
Ownership shines in various ways. Whether it’s by stepping up to lead one of our Communities, driving forward new initiatives and projects such as our Cybercrime Trends 2024 report and our Human Risk OS™, or taking initiative to implement changes when needed, we take pride in our successes and responsibility when things don’t go as planned.
We understand how our work can affect others and involve our teams upfront when our projects influence them in any way. This opens the door for collaborations, encourages us to seek help when needed and ensures our initiatives positively impact all of SoSafe.
Ambition: Making the impossible possible
Ambitious goals are one of the the driving forces behind our success and rapid growth since our founding in 2018. Our commitment to thinking big and setting high targets fosters a culture of support and momentum. By breaking down our bold visions into manageable steps, we ensure progress while sharing knowledge and encouragement along the way.
There are many goals we are still working towards, always looking for new strategies and ways to work in order to improve ourselves rather than getting stuck on what we already know, ensuring that SoSafe remains at the forefront of our industry.
Our team exemplifies ambition in many ways—by setting and exceeding high standards for ourselves, like for our product which is at the forefront of cybersecurity, thinking outside the box, and sharing knowledge to help each other along, as ambition is not just about individual success, but lifting each other up. This has led to us being one of Europe’s top scale-ups, now expanding internationally. We celebrate our successes, but don’t let them get in the way of future opportunities.
Focus: Prioritizing what matters most
We understand the importance of having a clear action plan to achieve our goals. Making goals measurable keeps us on track and encourages support. We know what we need to do and when we need to do it, supporting each other in prioritizing the most important goals and saying no to less important tasks.
However, we know that situations can change and stay flexible so we can adapt when necessary. If a situation isn’t working, we come together to analyze the issue, identify improvements, and implement changes moving forward. This approach allows us to maintain our focus while continuously improving, ensuring that we achieve our objectives and drive SoSafe’s success.
Our commitment to focus can be found in many ways: From successfully building and executing the Human Firewall Conference, one of the top industry events in cyber security, to focusing on our growth by expanding across Europe in cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Lisbon, reevaluating tasks when new information arises, and adapting to necessary change while staying dedicated and reaching our goals.
Our Value Champions
What are “Value Champions”?
Our Value Champions are Safeys who embody and promote our values both internally and externally. They serve as role models to our team, consistently demonstrating the importance of our values through their work and interactions with others.
What does it mean to be a Value Champion?
Being a Value Champion involves consistently demonstrating behaviors, attitudes, and actions that align with the value, whether it’s approaching all aspects of work with an open mind, taking ownership of tasks and responsibilities, demonstrating ambition while working towards our goals, or maintaining focus on them. A Value Champion inspires others to uphold the values and contributing to a culture of excellence and integrity within SoSafe.
How did our Value Champions become the champion for their value?
The process of selecting Value Champions at SoSafe began with a self-assessment phase for all team members interested in standing for nomination, followed by nominations from the entire team highlighting individuals who best exemplify our values. A jury panel then analyzed the nominations based on a number of factors and selected five Value Champions, honoring them during a special awards ceremony and champion event.
